NCsoft's Aion review with Screenies (GW 2 features maybe)
Ok, maybe off topic but NCsoft's Aion was reviewed yesterday and a few dozen screenie's were put up. The building architecture and toon design look very gw'esque.
I'm posting this because some of the features of Aion might be a preview of what we can look forward to in GW 2.
Here's the review:

Wings, meh!, Jetpack ftw.
I don't know about angels, but it's fear that gives men wings.

... I hate judging a game simply by the looks, but I gotta admit the male models used in the screens are hot and it makes me wanna get it >_>. The more customization, the more I seem to enjoy the game.
Else it seems like a fun game. PvPvE x]. If it's a free-to-play, I'm totally gonna buy it. If not... well GW2 and D2 are the next PC games I'm getting.

This is the only mmo other than GW that intrests me
I guess that might be from the similar look of the graphics, I even saw some "Guild Style" capes and skill animations in there.
Pretty sure its not gonna be free-to-play but if they have free trials when it comes out, well i guess i couldnt say no lol

Aion is your typical MMORPG. It takes elements from GW and WoW and other MMORPGS.
-Attack war, Tank war, Sin, ranger, Ele, Summoner, Healer, buffer.
-Crafting
-Game is divided into missions (story arch) and quests (side stories)
-Persistant world, instancing
-Skills from other classes can be equipped by a non-primary (similar to Guild War's second profession system) through Stigma stones, which can be bought/sold with players.
The only thing it does different is the Third faction where the NPCs attack the dominant faction to keep the two opposing player factions in balance.
imo GW2's "sidekick" system wil be its innovation.

Free-to-play -- Nope (from the FAQ)
Quote:
How much will Aion cost?
We anticipate Aion will be similar to our other subscription-based games, featuring a boxed product and associated subscription fees.
|
I do like that it is going to be like GW in there is no beta testing, they will have weekend events.
Quote:
When will the beta test start?
In lieu of beta testing, Aion fans will be given opportunities to participate in a small number of Preview events before the game's release. In addition to soliciting player feedback, the Preview events will help prepare for Aion's release, as well as provide a great gaming experience on launch day and beyond.
|
I saw the trailor a while back and thought it look OK but, I don't really like the idea of PvPvE but, might try out the weekend events just to see.

Thanks for the info.
Bah... dunno if I'll be on it then <_<. I was hoping for a GW look-alike in terms of gameplay/features, guess I'm gonna have to pay for it this time. I'm generally against the subscription system (when I have a game, I want to play>looks fun. Appeals to me more than WoW for sure... graphically anyways. Gameplay better be worth it then.

WTF?
That really made me think twice about playing the game. Unless they add something unique to it i'm not even going to bother.

It has promise, but that doesn't always make a great game. AoC had promise, and failed to deliver on many levels.
I'll probably buy it just to try it out for a month.

The Game gw2 Will be a whole new other game compared to the orginal Guild Wars. GW2 will make Guild Wars: The Orginal look like runescape because gw2 will be improved, better, easier controls, easier to understand, and much simplier storyline. Of course nobody knows whats going to happen tommrow and for all we know the game might be delayed to 2013.

Looks nice, but that isn't saying much. So far, nothing is really leaping out at me to get me to go "ZOMG!" As it is it looks like your standard Koren MMO.
I will say, however, that it's cool to see more MMO's giving actually decent facial animations.

Aion is TBA 2008, but IMO it will be in 2009. I mean, it's less than half a year and it still hasn't got a closed beta or release date.
